How you should patch and repair the rendered walls?

Rendering was a mixture of cement and sand which was applied to the surface of the exterior wall. Rendering provides attractive water and moisture-resistant finishing to homes. It was cheap and comes in various colors and provides good finishing which looks pretty good. As time passes, the rendering becomes damaged and water and moisture can penetrate easily by loosening it and causing detach from below the surface.

Rendering was similar to plastering where render gets mixed to a certain consistency which was then applied to the surface of walls in two coats. Firstly, the thin coat of render was applied and then the thicker coating of render was applied to provide good finishing. The steps for patch and render  repair of walls are –

·         Before starting the work of rendering first you should remove all the damaged and old render from the surface of the walls. You can use the claw hammer for starting the chipping of the old render to get down the block wall and brick below. It was tough for using a claw hammer in a large area. So, for saving time and energy the best tool was a small breaker with a cranked chisel.

·         When all the damaged and old render gets removed then you have to clean up all the area with the help of the hand brush or an old masonry brushfor the removal of dust and debris from the surface and holes or cracks which are existing there. If the cleaning was proper then it will not affect the new rendering. After cleaning, apply the SBR base to the wall which will help in the first coat of the render and also help in preventing the dry walls from sucking the moisture.

·         After the coating of the wall, you should fill the holes and deep depressions smoothly.

·         Now, you should apply the first render thin coat on the wall by using a plasterer’s trowel with a hawk. The hawk was loaded and then the trowel was loaded from the hawk. After the first coating on the wall, use polyurethane float or scratch comb for the scratch coat for creating a fantastic bond for the final coating.

·         You should take your time properly and do it slowly. Once the corner will shape then it was possible for using the polyurethane float and sponge to smooth it over.

·         After applying the first coat, you should apply the second coat which needs to be thicker by using the hawk and plasterer’s trowel.

·         After the second coating you should drag the excess render and provide smoothening to the surface of the wall.

·         After the final coat you should sponge out and sponge the overall area. You should fill all the holes and depressions which are existing and also maintain the edges of the wall.
